Soapland is a magical place that can make or break careers and there are many stars who’ve gone on to be part of the A-list.
Some stars quit with dreams of Hollywood but end up working normal jobs like the rest of us – whereas others go on to super stardom.
Here are five A-listers who got their start on soaps.
Which A-list stars started out in soap?
Chris Hemsworth
Best known for playing Thor in the MCU, Chris has carved out a career as a modern day action super star.
But before he was the superhero God, he was Kim Hide in Home and Away for three years.
Putting aside Kylie Minogue, Chris has become the most successful former Aussie soap star in the world.
And certainly the most muscle bound.
Ricky Whittle
It’s rare for a British soap star to make it in Hollywood – but it’s even rarer for one who starred in Hollyoaks.
The Channel 4 soap hasn’t always been known for casting actors based on talent – but with Ricky they got the full package.
After quitting as Calvin Valentine in 2010, he’s gone on to have huge success across the pond.
He’s just wrapped up a three season run on American Gods – and the sky is the limit.
Jenna Coleman
Shooting to fame as vicar Ashley Thomas’ lesbian niece Jasmine, Jenna quickly became an Emmerdale favourite.
Four years later she decided to quit to try new things and that’s exactly what she did.
Playing Clara Oswald in Doctor Who made her an international star, and roles in premium dramas and films quickly followed.
And now she’s signed on to star in a big budget superhero show The Sandman as one of the leads.
Margot Robbie
Aussie icon Margot has become known throughout the world for starring in big budget blockbusters and award winning critical smashes.
She also narrowly missed out on an Oscar in 2018 for I, Tonya.
But back in 2008 she was simply Neighbours star Margot Robbie.
She played Donna Freedman in the Australian soap before quitting, packing up and conquering Hollywood.
Joanna Lumley
National Treasure Joanna is known for her long and varied career.
And while many know her across the world as the imitable Patsy Stone, 39, in Absolutely Fabulous she wasn’t always super famous.

However her career began on the cobbles.
She played Ken Barlow’s girlfriend Elaine Perkins on Coronation Street in 1973.
