In tonight’s episode of Emmerdale (Monday, October 23), Belle found out the awful news that Tom’s mum had passed away.
Jimmy had mentioned the death of Tom’s mum, shocking Belle who hadn’t been made aware of the news.
But, who was Tom King’s mum in Emmerdale? What happened to her?
Who was Tom King’s mum?
Tom King’s mum was called Colleen King. She was the mum of both Tom and Anya.
She first appeared in the village in 2004, also appearing for brief stints in 2005 and 2010.
Colleen’s last appearance in Emmerdale village aired in 2010 before she moved to Saudi Arabia with her two children.
Who played Colleen King in Emmerdale?
Colleen was played by Melanie Ash who took on the role between 2004-2010.
Melanie Ash has also appeared in other soaps such as Casualty, Coronation Street and Doctors.
Alongside these shows, she’s also had roles in Ackley Bridge and The Bay.
Emmerdale: Colleen King and her relationship with Carl
Colleen was the ex-wife of Carl, with the couple sharing two children, Tom and Anya, together.
Tom is the eldest of the two, being born in 1996. Anya was born three years later, in 1999.
Colleen had custody of the children and appeared with the kids on occasions in 2004 and 2005 when they visited their dad in the village.
Visiting once more in 2010, Colleen brought the kids to see Carl whilst she was visiting her husband Stefan in hospital.
With Stefan injured in a work accident, Colleen let the kids stay with Carl whilst she looked after her husband.
Four months later, Colleen came back to collect Tom and Anya. She then revealed to Carl that she was taking the kids with her and moving to Saudi Arabia.
The three of them then packed up their bags and moved abroad the following day.
Emmerdale: How did Colleen King die?
Tonight, it was revealed that Tom’s mum, Colleen, had sadly passed away.
This news came thirteen years after viewers last saw Colleen in the village, with the character now being killed off away from the screen.
Belle wasn’t aware of Colleen’s death until she bumped into Jimmy who mentioned it to her.
Rushing back home to be with Tom, Belle tried to comfort him, realising that his mum’s death was the reason why he was pacing around during the night.
Tom had initially lied that he was just stressed about work stuff, but now Belle knew the truth.
Tom told Belle that he didn’t want to worry her whilst she was busy trying to support Lydia.
However, Tom then didn’t want to talk to Belle about his mum’s death, simply revealing that she had suffered a heart attack and died.
