Danny John-Jules’ wife slams Strictly for “throwing him under the bus”

Actor's partner hits back amid bullying claims

Danny John-Jules’ wife has accused Strictly Come Dancing of “trying to destroy him” following claims that he made professional partner Amy Dowden cry.

Petula Langlais believes the hit BBC1 show is throwing the 58-year-old Red Dwarf actor “under the bus”.

Danny hit the headlines this week amid reports that he left Amy, 27, in tears during training, allegedly telling her: “I’m the star, not you.”

The pair appeared briefly on BBC2’s Strictly: It Takes Two last night to deny the claims.

And Danny’s wife took to Twitter yesterday to defend him and blame the show for wanting to bring him down.

She tweeted: “Wow @bbcstrictlyPR @bbcstrictly are really throwing #Dannyjohnjules under that bus!… I’m in shock… Why are you trying to destroy him???”

Petula, who has two children with the actor, had earlier criticised Channel 5 daytime show host Jeremy Vine for covering the story.

She posted: “Our son is at home and was watching your show with me and is now very upset about what you’ve said because he knows it is totally not true! Thanks Jeremy, you are all as bad as each other!”

Danny’s wife also retweeted messages of support, including one that read: “I don’t know @DannyJohnJules but can’t stand when people put the word bullying, aggressive etc next to someone of colour but anyone else it is viewed as passion.

“He’s allowed to be frustrated and some people are sensitive to some situations! Sabotage.”

Speaking to roving reporter Gethin Jones on It Takes Two last night, Welsh pro-dancer Amy admitted: “Things did get a little bit intense the other day in rehearsals. But you know what, we took a half an hour break and got back straight to it.

“I’ve never felt bullied or threatened by Danny. I really want to get this man to Blackpool and then to the final.”

The actor, who also stars in BBC1’s Death in Paradise, added: “The only reason I’m here this far is because of Amy.

“I would never bite the hand that feeds me. It’s the best dance we have done in the past couple of days since we have been on the show.

“And I’m just happy to go along with it. She’s the boss, she wears the pants. Why would I argue with a Welsh woman?”
