Alex Jones has come under fire from Strictly fans after claiming “no one remembers” Jay McGuinnes’ 2015 win.
The presenter made the infuriating comments during last night’s The One Show, where she told guest Peter Andre – who appeared on Strictly during the same year as The Wanted singer Jay – that she was disappointed that he hadn’t made it to the final of the competition.
“Well the guy that won was excellent, he really was,” Peter, who was the ninth contestant to be voted off the show, graciously responded.
However, enraging both Strictly and The Wanted fans alike, Alex then claimed: “Nobody knows about him anymore though, we talk about you now.”
Alex’s comments prompted one upset fan to dub her “a self-opinionated wannabe presenter,” adding that her suggestion that no one remembers Jay “insults all the viewers and voters”.

Meanwhile, another added: “Silly woman, I only watch the One Show when Jay is on it!” Another was keen to remind Alex that Jay had won last year’s Radio Times reader poll, where fans voted for their favourite Strictly winner of all time.
Not to mention being voted “Greatest Strictly Come Dancing Winner” in 2017. Come on @MissAlexjones do your homework.

Alex Jones you are a self opinionated wannabe presenter who obviously does not know her brief. I suggest you do some research before making statements Jay McGuiness was a superb winner of the show. Your suggestion that Peter Andre was better insults all the viewers and voters.

No one remembers @JayMcGuiness winning #Strictly (Said Alex Jones on The One Show talking to Peter Andre tonight) 😯😠 Well, nearly most people that I talk to about Jay being a fan of my art remembers Jay winning #Strictly and his Jive 😉😉 So a lot of people do remember Jay 👍🏻👍🏻 pic.twitter.com/st9mGKxrO9

Alex and @BBCTheOneShow need to do their homework better. The Jaliona Jive especially was Amazing & should have had a 10 from all of the Judges week 3 or not. pic.twitter.com/0l3a1jGxv0

Alex herself appeared on Strictly in 2011 and placed fifth overall. Speaking about her stint on the show earlier this year, Alex said: “I was so hideous. I don’t know how I lasted so long.”
