Alexandra Burke has hit back at claims that she suffered a backstage ‘meltdown’ during the weekend’s Strictly quarter-finals.
The former X-Factor star and her professional partner Gorka Marquez finished in the bottom two for the second week running, despite performing a brilliant Charleston to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious on Saturday night.
And although Alex and Gorka managed to defeat Davood Ghadami and his partner Nadiya Bychkova in the dance-off, a report in The Sun claimed that the 29-year-old singer was left “sobbing and shaking” afterwards because the public hadn’t voted for her.
But Alex is having none of it, and she’s taken to social media to set the record straight.
After Saturday night’s show, Alex and Gorka were joint top of the leaderboard and ten points clear of the bottom two, so their place in the dance-off insinuates that they weren’t heavily backed in the public phone vote.
And The Sun’s report suggests that the singer took it very badly. The paper quoted a ‘source’ as saying: “Alexandra was sobbing and shaking in the green room after the dance-off.
“She couldn’t understand why the public had voted her into the bottom two for the second week in a row despite getting great scores.
“She had to be reassured by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman – she seemed inconsolable.”

And The Daily Star backed up The Sun’s report by alleging that Alex had been heard crying: “Why does everyone hate me?”
But the claims don’t sit at all well with Alex, who’s posted an angry tweet to defend herself.
She wrote: “Because it’s really hard to read lies, I have to say something… after the show on the weekend I actually WASN’T in the green room. I was in the physio room treating an injury and then went home.
“NO meltdown… just happy that we made it through another week xx.”
And the Londoner also had a few words for those people who DID vote for her and Gorka.
She gushed: “Thank you so much to everyone who has supported @gorkamarquez1 & I. Your kind messages mean the world to us.

“Being in the dance-off was horrible but we are so happy to have made it to the semi-finals! Can’t wait to dance again on Saturday & continue this amazing journey xxx.”
As for Davood, the tenth celebrity to be voted off the show is sure to be missed.
The actor was inundated with messages of condolence from his fans, and he later thanked them with an emotional tweet.
Wrote the 35-year-old: “So many lovely tweets – I wish I could reply to them all! Thank you for taking the time to make my day!”
