Star of This Morning Alison Hammond has opened up about her 11-stone weight loss after revealing she was once 28 stone.
The television star has become a national treasure in recent years. Her larger-than-life personality and iconic Hollywood star interviews have kept viewers coming back for more. However, in addition to her radiant persona, Alison has openly discussed her struggles with weight with viewers.
Alison Hammond weight loss
While hosting This Morning alongside Dermot O’Leary on Friday (September 6), the pair discussed whether plane passengers should pay for extra seats.
I was nearly 28 stone, I will be honest with you and I was classified as morbidly obese.
The conversation was sparked after a photo of an overweight man online saw him struggling to get into the aisle of his seat. The user who shared the image insisted the passenger was “protruding into the aisle” and making other travellers struggle to move around him when trying to attend to the bathroom.
Alison weighed in and said she had faced a similar experience in the past. “I was nearly 28 stone, I will be honest with you and I was classified as morbidly obese and I used to buy an extra seat [on planes],” she revealed to viewers at home.
“Every single time I flew I would always buy an extra seat because I didn’t want to put anyone in a situation where I was touching them because I was made to feel uncomfortable on one occasion.”
“I was just edging into their seat, and they asked to move and what they [the flight attendants] did in the end was actually move me to first class because the guy was being so rude,” she continued.
The former Big Brother contestant confessed that it made her feel “uncomfortable” and was one of the main reasons she chose to lose weight. Alison said she’s now 17 stone.
After losing 11 stone, she shared that she no longer needs to spend extra cash on another seat when jetting off. However, she recognised that not everyone is in a situation where they can afford to.
She also said she believes obesity is a “disability”.
Alison knows she might ‘die a little sooner’
This isn’t the first time Alison has been so open about her weight.
In 2022, she got emotional while speaking to a This Morning viewer about obesity. Alison admitted she had been battling with it her whole life and wanted the public to be aware that it is a serious disease.
During an appearance on Lorraine Kelly and daughter Rosie’s What If? Podcast shortly after, Alison revealed she had face trolling over her appearance.
Looking on the positive side of things, Alison said that while she is aware she “might die a little sooner” she still insists she will “live life to the fullest”.
