It’s been confirmed that Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice have quit Strictly Come Dancing.
Earlier today (October 23), reports claimed that Amanda has quit the show following some “setbacks”.
The actor pulled out of performing on Saturday thanks to a health issue.
Amanda Abbington quits Strictly
The Daily Star reported that former Sherlock star Amanda has quit the show.
Amanda pulled out of Saturday’s show – with Claudia Winkleman saying on Saturday: “Now as you may have noticed, Amanda and Giovanni are missing from the lineup. Due to medical reasons, Amanda is unable to perform this week.”
Now, on It Takes Two on Monday evening, host Fleur East confirmed the news.

A statement from Strictly read: “Amanda Abbington is unable to continue in Strictly Come Dancing and has decided to withdraw from the competition. The show wishes her all the best for the future.”
One viewer said: “Gutted that Amanda (& Gio) won’t be coming back to Strictly. What a shame.”
Another wrote: “Absolutely gutted, she was amazing & I really wished she’d stayed on.”
A third added: “Huge shame Amanda has been forced to pull out of series, she did some lovely performances.”
Rift between Strictly star Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice?
Earlier in the series, reports claimed that there was a rift between Amanda and her pro partner, Giovanni.
Amanda had allegedly taken issue with Giovanni’s “militant” attitude to training.
Speaking to The Sun at the time, a source explained that Giovanni takes the show “very, very seriously”.
“He is quite militant in his approach to training. She’s been left very shaken, and has liaised with her team about quitting,” the source said at the time.
“It has become far more stressful than she ever imagined and at the moment things between them are incredibly tense. That being said — and somewhat ironically — they actually dance very well together. The hope is they talk things through and wave the white flag.”
However, both Amanda and Giovanni hit back at the claims with sweet tributes to each other on Instagram at the time.
