Britain’s Got Talent viewers clash with each other over winning act ‘fix’ claims

Some are 'never watching the show again'!

Some frustrated Britain’s Got Talent viewers have said they’re “never watching the show again” after 89-year-old army veteran Colin Thackery won the live grand final.

Branding his win as “the biggest fix ever on TV”, viewers took to Twitter in their droves to complain that Jonathan Goodwin didn’t even place in the top three – despite burying himself alive.

Colin won £250,000 and will now get the chance to perform in front of the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance, while magician X and Ben Hart were placed second and third.

While Simon Cowell, his fellow judges and the live studio audience couldn’t be happier for the octogenarian, some viewers didn’t seem to share their views.

Many were annoyed that Jonathan didn’t place at all after his escapologist act saw him risk suffocation as he buried himself in a case full of gravel.

“Jonathan almost died. Are you having a giggle?” one viewer asked.

Others accused the producers of lining Colin up to win after he performed last during the finale.

One person wrote on Twitter: “Such a fix #BGT this year. I did like Colin but you could see it was total manufactured sob story – and last on. X was robbed imo [sic].”

One viewer even said Colin wasn’t a “worthy winner”.

They wrote: “Seriously, very disappointed with who won the show, not a worthy winner at all, nobody can say he got through on outstanding talent which numerous other contestants had, he got through and won for who he represented, won’t be watching any more.”

“Absolute fix! Never watching the show again,” another agreed.

However, others were full of support for the singer, saying Colin was “what this country is all about”.

“[Expletive] anyone who’s slagging Colin off,” the viewer said on social media. “He’s what this country is all about.”

“It was so sweet that Colin won #BGT. It was refreshing to watch someone as special and as humble win something like that for a change. Well deserved champion. Thanks Colin for giving your life all those years ago and sharing your talent with us now.”

Another added: “Colin Thakery deserved to win! The Queen will love him, get over it!”

One said: “People online Slating Colin for winning are a disgrace. He is an 89 year old man with a lovely voice and he served OUR country for 25 years. He has every right to on this show and its not fair what people say. He DESERVED to win #BGTfinal. He makes me proud to be British.”

Colin was favourite to win the show after he paid tribute to his wife Joan – who died from breast cancer in 2016 – with his performance of Dame Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again in the semi-finals.

Ent Daily has contacted reps for BGT for comment.

Well done, Colin, we think you are just the tonic the country needs and can’t wait to watch you sing again on The Royal Variety Performance!
