Appropriate Adult, starring Dominic West as killer Fred West, blew viewers away last night as it aired again on ITV.
The two-part drama, first shown in 2011, centres on the investigation into Fred and Rose West’s horrific killings – and Janet Leach’s (Emily Watson) role in the inquiry as an ‘appropriate adult’.
What did Appropriate Adult viewers think of Dominic West?
Those watching at home on Tuesday (September 22) were truly impressed by Dominic’s performance as the Gloucester serial killer.
Some said it rivalled David Tennant’s recent role as Dennis Nilsen in the ITV true-crime drama Des. However, some said they thought Dominic was even better than David.

Dominic West’s ‘truly great’ performance won him a BAFTA
Someone else pointed out that Dominic received a BAFTA for his role in Appropriate Adult.
A fifth said: “@ITV are smashing it with these serial killer dramatisations… #Des, now #AppropriateAdult. Very, very good.”

Warning! Spoilers ahead for episode one and two of Appropriate Adult
In the first episode of Appropriate Adult, trainee social worker Janet Leach was called up to sit in on the police’s interviews with Fred West. In this case, she served as an ‘appropriate adult’.
Fred grew increasingly reliant on Janet during the investigation, calling her his friend. But the gruesome details of the case started to have a serious impact on Janet’s wellbeing and family life.

As a result, the episode ended with police telling Janet they no longer need her on the case.
In episode two, police hit a brick wall in their inquiry as a result. They call Janet back in to get Fred to comply with their questioning.
