The nights are drawing in… and so we’ll be watching even more telly! Here’s what to watch out for when it comes to this year’s autumn TV.

Big Brother 2023
Oh yes, ITV’s reboot of Big Brother will be with us very, very soon. No exact start date has been revealed yet (although here is everything else we know about Big Brother’s return), so might as well just block out all of October in your diary. October 8 has been rumoured online, so watch this space…
Shetland series 8
DI Jimmy Perez won’t be returning, but Shetland fans will still be delighted when the drama is back on the Beeb this autumn. Ashley Jensen joins the cast and the word is series 8 will begin before Christmas trees go up.
RuPaul’s Drag Race season 5
Mama Ru has been confirmed to return to BBC Three with a gorgeous new set of glamazon queens. And among the celebrity guest judges will be Alexandra Burke, Joel Dommett, Cush Jumbo, Suranne Jones and Sophie-Ellis Bextor.
Autumn TV: Gogglebox
Praise be! No more round up shows from ages ago! Friday nights are for watching telly again! Gogglebox returned for a new series this weekend (Friday September 8).
Doctor Who
Whovians also have THREE new shows to get excited about, with BBC One specials expected in November. David Tennant plays the Time Lord once again, joined by Catherine Tate as Donna. Then a new series sees Ncuti Gatwa take over the sonic screwdriver from Christmas.
My Mum, Your Dad
Just when you thought you’d seen every possible dating show format, along comes a new one. Hosted by Davina McCall, ITV’s My Mum, Your Dad follows a group of single parents nominated by their grown-up kids for a second chance at love. The series is scheduled to launch on Monday September 11 at 9pm.
Time series 2
BBC One has already shared a few glimpses of what viewers can look forward to in this second season of Jimmy McGovern’s gritty prison drama. And this time, Jodie Whittaker’s Orla is among those banged up and serving Time.
The Great British Bake Off
On your marks, get set… bake! Alison Hammond takes over from Matt Lucas as the This Morning fave makes her debut in the tent when series 14 begins in September.
Survivor
You may recall Survivor originally airing on ITV over 20 years ago, as well as the numerous versions that have aired internationally. Now the reality competition that maroons contestants in an isolated location is about to hit BBC One. This time around Joel Dommett hosts.
Autumn TV 2023: Strictly Come Dancing
You didn’t think we’d overlook Strictly 2023, did you? With a celebrity cast including Les Dennis, Angela Rippon and Jade Goody’s son Bobby Brazier, we’re primed and ready for Strictly to take over our lives once again for a 21st series. And it’ll be back before September is done – September 16, in fact!
The Long Shadow
The Long Shadow depicts the desperate five-year hunt for one of Britain’s most notorious serial killers: the Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe.
Starring Toby Jones, David Morrissey, Lee Ingleby, Katherine Kelly, Jill Halfpenny and Daniel Mays, the seven-part series begins on ITV in September.
Neighbours: A New Chapter
ED! is old enough to remember when Neighbours got cancelled after the best part of 40 years. That was last year. But, in the ultimate soap comeback – even more impressive than Harold Bishop coming back from drowning – A New Chapter begins on Amazon Prime Video on Monday September 18.
