With six grand slam titles under his belt, Boris is said to have resorted to selling his trophies to try and stave off debt, and is apparently hoping a lucrative I’m a Celeb contract will help him get back into the black.
Boris filed for bankruptcy in the High Court in June, with debts of £54 million in his name.
His wealth was once estimated as between £30 and £100 million, after his rampant success on the tennis court in the 80s and 90s.
He took home the Wimbledon trophy three times – in 1985, 1986, and 1989 – and won the US Open in 1989 and the Australian Open in 1991 and 1996.
But the tennis star reportedly lost much of his fortune to some bad business deals, including a failed property development deal in Dubai.
He was also subject to some expensive payouts, including a £2.5 million fine for tax evasion.
Boris was said to be stuck with a divorce settlement of more than £10 million, when he and his first wife, Barbara Feltus, divorced in 2001. Boris had admitted to having a one night stand with model, Angela Ermakova, while dining out at a restaurant in London.
Boris has since said that he’s happy about the encounter – which he claims took place on the stairs of Nobu in Mayfair – as it led to the birth of his daughter, Anna.
“I’ve grown up, and I’m happy. My daughter Anna is one of the best things in my life … I’m very proud of my daughter.”
But the affair brought an expensive end to his marriage – and also required a £2 million payout to Angela.
The Sun reports his team are negotiating a £500,000 contract to appear on the new series of I’m a Celeb, to help get him back in the black.
A source told the paper: “As everyone now knows, Boris’s financial situation is desperate.
“He needs a way to make a lot of money fast, and has looked to I’m A Celebrity to him do exactly that.
“His representatives are negotiating with ITV over his fee, and they are aiming to get him “500,000.
“TV chiefs know he would be a brilliant signing. But they also know Boris is slightly over a barrel as a result of his dire financial situation.”
Other stars rumoured to be heading to the jungle for the new series, include The Saturdays singer, Vanessa White, reality TV star, Charlotte Crosby, and presenter, Craig Charles.
There have even been rumours of a return of I’m a Celeb veteran, and controversial journalist, Katie Hopkins.
