Fans of drama The Missing have awaited the new series of spin off Baptiste with bated breathe.
Some loved it and can’t contain their excitement for the rest of the series, but others thought it was far too gruesome and switched off after the opening scenes – which made many vow to get a smart meter!
The first part of the episode saw a man walking along a beach collecting a shell before returning to his home to find a man waiting for him to read his meter.

As he happily let the guy into his home and waffled on about the rare shell he’d found, he had no idea what was about to befall him.
The meter reader was not a meter reader at all, but a killer who put a plastic bag over the guy’s head and suffocated him to death.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, he then stood over the body and started up a chainsaw ready to decapitate the man.
Viewers at home have now declared they will be getting a smart meter so no one has to read their meter ever again!
Just finished watching #Baptiste on catch up and I will never let another British Gas meter reader in again (especially if it’s at the same time as admiring the shell 🐚 collection we have 🙄☺️)

Well, if nothing else, #Baptiste has convinced me to get smart meters installed.

Others were really unhappy with the level of violence in the show and while some are persevering, many have decided to switch off due to the brutality of those opening scenes.
#Baptiste Brutal, unsettling. I hate violence and the thought of such evil in the world.

Attempting to watch #Baptiste but struggling with the violence. I’m ten minutes in. Is it worth me persevering?
— Sarah (@Sarah_and_Son) February 17, 2019
Ooooh noooooo – I had to close my eyes & put my fingers in my ears & make lots of noise so I couldn’t hear or see what was happening at the start of #Baptiste – please let it not be so grim going forwards. I’m prone to nightmares. I loved him in Missing but no more chainsaws 😩🙏🏼

#Baptiste Hubby watched the opening scene of a gruesome murder & switched over, is it really necessary to show such gratuitous violence?
— Vanessa Gregory (@VanessaStAlbans) February 17, 2019
Sorry, was looking forward to this but gave up about half way in. Too much gratuitous violence – totally unnecessary and now very old hat. Work a bit harder please. #baptiste

BBCs #Baptiste a bit too gruesome for me.
— Jo Verity (@jo_verity) February 18, 2019
That’s me done at the first sight of the chainsaw. I’m not ready for #Baptiste this time.

But many fans just couldn’t get enough and found it gripping and brilliant – especially the huge twist at the end where the severed head of the man from the beginning was seen once again.
#Baptiste yes!!! Brilliant!! 💙
