Coronation Street’s Bill Roache has paid a touching tribute to his late on-screen wife Anne Kirkbride.
The actor has shared new details about the last time he saw Anne, who played Deirdre Barlow, just before she sadly passed away in 2015 after a battle with breast cancer.
Bill told OK! Magazine about visiting Anne just before she died: “She was unconscious from morphine but she had a glow about her.

“I held her hand and felt a little tremor. I hoped that was a sign she knew I was with her.”
The pair worked together for decades and formed a close mutual bond.
“I really loved Anne.
“We were married, split up and then got married again. We got on so well. Acting-wise we were just the same.
“She was great company, a laugh was never far away. She was a delight and I was very fortunate to work with somebody like her for so long.”
Anne and Bill’s characters Deirdre and Ken were married twice during their time together on the soap. The first time was between 1981 and 1992, and then they remarried in 2005 and were together until 2015.

After Anne’s untimely death she was written out of the show when her character died off screen, leaving everyone devastated.
Since Deirdre’s death Ken has been forced to face family battles alone without his wife by his side.
