He hosted his last episode of BBC Breakfast in 2016

Bill Turnbull has revealed he would love to fill in for Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain.

The former BBC Breakfast presenter said he would happily join Susanna Reid on the daytime show one time when Piers is off.

As he appeared on Wednesday’s show, his former co-star Susanna asked him if he would join her to presenter the programme.

Susanna said: “What would you think about, on a day where Piers Morgan perhaps has been incapacitated.

Bill joked: “What when he’s been sacked by the audience?” to which Susanna said: “Why don’t you come and sit next to me and present the programme?”

Bill admitted: “I’d love to. Name the date. I wouldn’t do it full-time because [getting up at 3am] is stressful and stress is not good for cancer but every once in a while would be great.”

He asked Piers: “What are you doing tomorrow?”

Piers seemed keen on the idea and said: “I’m entirely in favour because I’ve got a load of Victoria’s Secret models coming to sit in for Susanna in the next couple of weeks.”

Bill presented his last BBC Breakfast episode with Louise Minchin back in February 2016.

He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in November 2017 and has been taking a break from TV since.

Bill revealed his prostate cancer diagnosis in March 2018.

Speaking about his diagnosis, Bill said: “I feel amazingly well. To be honest, I feel better than before diagnosis.

“You do have to try and stay positive and I try and stay happy. Frankly, being happy is nicer than being miserable Piers!

“That’s all part of the healing process from within, I believe that. I think you can help yourself get better. [I use] conventional medicine, I get treated at the Royal Marsden and they are absolutely wonderful.

“But I have to help myself as well. So diet, I have stopped drinking, [I] try to take exercise and keep working on having a moment of joy every day is really important.”

On trying cannabis during his new documentary, he said: “It was an embarrassing moment actually, I wasn’t expecting that to happen.

“I was doing a piece to camera, or trying to, and I just couldn’t form a sentence.”
