Stanley Johnson becomes early favourite to win I’m A Celebrity

Is this the winner?

| Updated:

Bookies have predicted who they think will win I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! after the first episode aired last night, and it’s not who you might expect.

Stanley Johnson has emerged as the early favourite as his odds tumbled after viewers met this year’s campmates for the first time.

The 77-year-old has already proved to be as entertaining as his MP son Boris, as it’s clear to see where the foreign secretary gets some of his endearing qualities from.

Last night, Stanley caused amusement when he asked his co-stars what a reality show was, only to be informed by Jamie Lomas that he was on one.

He then compared going into the jungle to being sent to boarding school when he was eight, and was surprised when Shappi Khorsandi told him she didn’t know what that felt like asking him in jest, “you do know not everyone goes to boarding school?”

The Tory toff then ruled himself out of having a meal ticket in the evening because he failed to win one in his task which involved sticking his hand into boxes full of critters to find coloured tokens.

He failed to find the most after coming up against a giant crab that clawed his hand drawing blood, and leaving Stanley to educate viewers on other forms of dangerous sea life such as squid.

Stanley’s performance on the show made him the big mover in William Hill’s I’m A Celebrity betting, with his odd slashed from 7/1 to 5/2 to make him the clear favourite.

Joint second favourites behind him after the first show were Coronation Street actress Jennie McAlpine and Made In Chelsea’s Georgia Toffolo, both with odds of 9/2.

“Stanley is the one to beat after the opening show,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

“His odds have tumbled considerably and he is quite some way ahead of the rest of the chasing pack.”

At the other end of the scale, Amir Khan and Rebekah Vardy are currently predicted as the least likely to win.

The boxer has odds of 25/1 while the WAG was 33/1/

Before the first show aired, it was Corrie’s Jennie who was expected to be the one to beat, followed by Jack Maynard and Georgia.

The first episode sent the celebs straight in at the deep end with Jennie, Jamie, Georgia, Jack, Amir and Vanessa White having to walk a terrifying plank at the top of a skyscraper.

Meanwhile, Shappi and Dennis Wise had to skydive while Stanley and Rebekah got to grips with an assortment of bugs, rats and crustaceans.

The stars of the show though were of course Ant and Dec, with fans delighted to see Ant McPartlin back where he belongs co-hosting following a summer in rehab to overcome an addiction to prescription painkillers.

We’re pretty sure Ant would get the most votes for King of the Jungle if he was in the running but for now Stanley is the man to beat!
