Britain’s first man to give birth speaks on “really hard” experience

Hayden Cross shared his story on Lorraine

Hayden Cross, Britain’s first man to give birth, opened up on Lorraine today about his decision to have a baby.

Hayden, who was born female and called Paige, decided to find a sperm donor and have a child before completing his transition as the NHS wouldn’t freeze his eggs.

Speaking to presenter Lorraine Kelly, the 21-year-old admitted: “It’s not something I wanted to go through.”

Hayden gave birth to daughter Trinity-Leigh in 2017. Although he says they are a happy family and everything “fell into place” the road to get there was difficult.

He spoke out in the hope of helping others who may be in the same position.

He continued: “I wouldn’t advise anyone to do it because it was really hard, but if you are going to do it, make sure you get the right support.

“At first it was a bit of a new thing but now the NHS do support people doing it.”

He was also pregnant at the same time as his mother and they gave birth just days apart.

He added of his surgery plans: “I’ve had my top surgery done. I had Trinity in June, then had top surgery in the May after.

“Now I’ve just got bottom surgery to do, which I can have whenever I’m ready.”
