Fans of daytime chat show Lorraine were left feeling awkward today after watching stand-in Carol Vorderman interview EastEnders actress Lorraine Stanley.
The maths whiz, 58, struggled to get lengthy answers from the soap star, who plays Walford’s Karen Taylor.

In the somewhat jarring conversation, Lorraine appeared reluctant to give anything other than short responses to Carol’s questions.
Viewers on Twitter weren’t impressed with the interview, although most appeared to lay the blame with Carol rather than Lorraine.
One wrote: “Not very impressed at Carol V’s interviewing style with Lorraine Stanley, quite shocked at how awkward it seems #lorraine #itv.”
Someone else tweeted: “Carol is not a good replacement. Interviewing is really not her thing! Mind you it’s not Lorraine’s either… where’s Christine [Lampard]?”
Another commented: “Who told Carol she could interview? She’s so wooden and scripted and false… ugh!!”

Others loved Carol, with one person writing: “Loved you on Lorraine today. You should have your own show in between Lorraine & This Morning.”
Another said: “You should have your own show!”
At one point in the interview, Carol asked Lorraine what it feels like to watch her EastEnders scenes back, since she looks so different from her Walford alter-ego in real life.
The actress told her: “Oh, it’s hard watching myself. She wears tight-fitted clothes, I cover all my curves. She’s got no shame. It’s quite difficult!”
Carol then asked her what the character’s like to play and Lorraine said: “It’s great because I get to play comedy, I get to play drama. So she can mix it up.”
Moving the interview on, Carol quizzed Lorraine on the shocking knife crime story Karen was involved in last year and the impact it might have had in on real life victims.
Karen said: “I hope it had a big impact. It was amazing working with real people who had lost families through knife crime.

“Such a humbling experience to work with them. Like I said, we’re actors, we just go home and we can switch off but for them, they’re living it. If it stopped one person picking up a knife then EastEnders has done its job.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Carol asked Lorraine about her recent weight loss.
“I’ve lost 12 lbs in six weeks,” the actress revealed, adding: “I’ve eaten a lot of boiled eggs, a lot of fish, a lot of chicken. No more chocolate or crisps. I’m enjoying it, I feel better for it.”
