It’s the biggest night of the year, and Channel 5 decided to mark if by sharing FIVE HOURS of Jane McDonald.
Lovely as she is, that’s got to be excessive for anyone but the most hardcore fans? Who wants to spend five consecutive hours in anyone’s company, come to think of it…?
But there she was, stripped across five shows, from 8pm last night.
The Macca marathon began with Christmas Cruising With Jane McDonald.
That was followed by Jane McDonald and Friends NYE Special, Jane McDonald: My Life Story, another episode of Cruising With Jane McDonald, the second part of Jane McDonald and Friends NYE Special, and, finally, Jane: 12 Cruises of Christmas, which finished at 1.35am.
Happy New Year!
New Year's Eve on Channel 5. You wait ages for one Jane McDonald show… then SIX come along at once. pic.twitter.com/gMwvYJsF20

When the schedule was first released, viewers were not looking forward, with one tweeting: “Jane McDonald night from 8pm on New Year’s Eve until 1:35am on Channel 5 that’s a nightmare.”
A second added: “I like Jane but [bleeping] hell that’s ridiculous!”
A third moaned: “That’s Channel 5 for you. Cheap and nasty.”
And, as the shows bedded in last night, there were more complaints…
I went to bed at 10, missed NY, also missed 5hrs of Jane McDonald on Channel 5 … 5hrs of Jane McDonald???? I don’t understand 2019 already.

Channel 5 have a Jane McDonald marathon running across the new year. Whoever programmed that should be checked on immediately as they may be about to kill themselves.

Is Jane McDonald off the telly yet?

There were also messages of support from Jane’s fans, who are clearly of a cheerier disposition.
Ah, a perfect NYE watching the fabulous Jane McDonald, a nice down to earth star who richly deserves her success. Looking forward to seeing more of her shows in 2019. She is a diamond & deserves a gong for her services to entertainment. God bless her

It’s 1:30am and Jane McDonald is STILL on Channel 5 I mean I’m kinda living for this JMcD 6 hour overload.

The fireworks are over, Madness has gone, Jools Holland is fading into the distance, but Jane McDonald’s 12 Cruises of Christmas on @channel5_tv is still going strong. Expected to hate this, but it is its own knowing parody and is genuinely funny.

It’s not surprising Channel 5 is a fan of Jane. The channel won its first Bafta this year for Cruising With Jane McDonald, and the presenter said in her acceptance speech that it was testament to the channel’s “evolution”.

And there’s set to be even more Jane in the New Year, as she’s going on tour, as well as doing more TV work.
The prolific star confirmed her plans as she wished her fans a Happy Christmas last week.

The Loose Women star commented beside the picture of herself by a tree: “I’d like to wish everyone a very merry #Christmas and a wonderful New Year. I hope to see many of you next year – I’m so excited to get out on tour again, it’s going to be the best one yet! Love to you all, Jane xx.”
