BBC viewers shared their concerns over news anchor Clive Myrie last night (January 6) after his eye appeared to ‘droop’ as he hosted last night’s 6pm bulletin.
Clive has been a regular presenter of BBC News for years, quickly becoming a fan favourite. And, while presenting the News At Six last night, the news anchor’s eye looked to increasingly droop, raising alarm bells for viewers watching at home.
Concerns for Clive Myrie over ‘drooping’ eye
Many viewers took to X to share their concerns for his health.
One wrote: “Is Clive Myrie okay? His eye is drooping.” Another added: “What has Clive Myrie done to his eye?” A third simply shared an image presenting the key signs of a stroke.
I did think about wearing an eye patch, but the boss said no!
“Noticed that Clive Myrie has a slight droop in his left eyelid. Has that always been there?” a fourth queried.
However, while Clive admitted the concern was understandable, he has now put their worries to rest.
The Mastermind host remained his upbeat, humorous self as he explained he was aware of the drooping eye, and already knew the reason behind it.
Clive shares health update with fans
After the programme finished, Clive took to his own social media to share an update. He wrote: “Happy New Year everyone and thank you for all your concern over my left eye. It’s nothing serious, just an infection.”
The post continued, with Clive joking: “I did think about wearing an eye patch, but the boss said no! A bit like Long John Silver. He wasn’t having any of it! Cheers.”
As well as hosting the BBC News, Clive has presented his own BBC Two travel show exploring his Caribbean culture, along with hosting the quiz show Mastermind.
