She said: “I’ll be forever grateful for this opportunity and all it has given me, but I’m also excited to try something new.”

Kate is staying in the ITV family and will be moving to produce the second series of drama Bancroft which stars Sarah Parrish.

The 38-year-old redhead has had a controversial stint on the cobbles with many fans criticising her for making the show too dark.

She’s been behind Bethany Platt’s sexual abuse and subsequent job in a lap dancing club.

Kate also gave us murderous builder Pat Phelan who has killed three characters and will reportedly shoot Michelle Connor in upcoming episodes.

She also was the brains behind David Platt’s current male rape storyline.

The Sun reported back in January that Kate was under pressure to quit following the criticism and lack of awards won since her takeover.

A source told the paper of Kate’s imminent departure: “It was always a matter of when, not if, with Kate going, and now it’s been confirmed she’s leaving.

“There’s a feeling of jumping before she was pushed. But she is staying within the ITV family.
