Coronation Street fans have hit out at the show for allowing Bethany Platt to get away with her violent attack.

Viewers watched earlier in the week as Bethany lashed out at an innocent man in the strip club when she suffered a flashback to her abuser Nathan Curtis when a stag party got out of hand.

But after being warned by police that she could be facing prison time for the devastating assault, Bethany was seemingly let off scot-free.

With no court scene, the news was revealed in the cafe as Bethany told her mum: “I literally couldn’t believe it when they said all the charges had been dropped.

“I was like ‘what did you say?’”

Viewers couldn’t believe it either and reacted with fury that Bethany, regardless of what had happened to her, had got away with potentially blinding and scarring a man for life.

One vented on Twitter: “But HOW did Bethany get away with it? Not even detained for psychological assessment as she’s a danger to others

Another added: “I know our legal system is shoddy, but this is ridiculous. Bethany glasses someone and gets let off !!!!!”

A third wrote: “Bethany disfigures a guy while being underaged & performing YET all charges dropped?!!”

A fourth said: “So Bethany glasses someone in the face and gets away with it… a great message to show the world eh Corrie??”

Coronation Street has come under recent criticism for the darker scenes it has been showing, with more than 80 people complaining to Ofcom about Billy Mayhew’s drug taking earlier this week.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
