Coronation Street’s most famous residents could be making a return to the cobbles – as ghosts, according to reports.
New character – clairvoyant Rosemary (Sophie Thompson) – will be communicating with some departed characters such as Gail Platt’s murderous husband, Richard Hillman, in upcoming episodes.

But Sophie has admitted in an interview that she’d like her character to chew the fat with some other iconic characters, like much-loved couple Jack and Vera Duckworth.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Sophie said when asked who she’d like to speak to from beyond the grave: “Hilda Ogden, Jack and Vera, Ena Sharples… all those ladies who used to drink stout in the Rovers.
“I wish I could bring them back and have a milk stout with them in black and white.”
She added: “Corrie will always have that spirit, those strong women and great storylines.”
Jack and Vera were played by the late actors Bill Tarmy and Liz Dawn and – apparently – Corrie bosses are planning a tribute to the couple on the new set in Salford Quays, Manchester.
A source told the Star: “It’s a fabulous idea and something that the cast and all the families would relish.
“A statue of them together would be such a lovely tribute.
“The thought of them actually being reunited in this form of tribute is superb.”

It’s also rumoured that bosses on the ITV soap are planning to turn Fiz Stape and Tyrone Dobbs into the ‘new Jack and Vera’ to provide some comic relief amongst all the dark storylines.
Let’s see if Fiz can overlook Ty sleeping with someone else first…
