Coronation Street slammed for “unrealistic” transplant story

Has it been handled well?

| Updated:

Coronation Street’s Carla Connor and her brother Aidan had surgery last month to transplant a healthy kidney from Aidan into Carla and save her life.

But with both patients up and about and back on the Street, fans have taken to social media to slam the show for its unrealistic portrayal of such a serious issue.

In last night’s episode, fans watched in amazement as both Aidan and Carla got back to normal after their ops.

Carla even felt well enough to play a mean prank on Sally Metcalfe, and hang out in the Rovers.

Fans took to Twitter to complain about the unrealistic message the show was sharing.

“Aidan and Carla had KIDNEY SURGERY,” said one viewer. “How are they carrying things?”

“Are they not a bit too active for people who have just had a kidney removed and one added?” asked another fan.

“Realistic not!” exclaimed another viewer.

Another fan said: “Isn’t it normally a 6 week recovery time from surgery. Carla and Aidan must be superhuman to recover so quickly.”

One fan even said she was offended by the speed of the storyline.

“Kidney transplant story has not reflected in any way the struggles endured by families living with kidney failure,” she wrote. “Not well researched and minimised the real issues.”

And she finished by saying she was a “bit offended!”.
