David Platt is going to be helped through his rape ordeal by a woman, according to reports.
But it’s not girlfriend Shona, or even sister Sarah – David’s new friend is a new recruit at Audrey’s salon who will help him come to terms with what’s happened.
Corrie producer Kate Oates has revealed the new character – who’s called Emma – will be drawn into the dark storyline as she makes friends with troubled David.
“Emma will be working in the salon,” Kate told Sun Online.
“We’ll be bringing her in as part of David’s story, and she’s going to wind him up. She’s going to be a ditzy new girl in the salon.”
Ditzy or not, newcomer Emma will be one of the people who helps David get back on his feet after the attack.
David’s befriended mechanic Josh over the past few weeks, training for a charity boxing match in memory of murdered Luke. And in Friday’s episode, the pair will go out drinking before Josh spikes David’s drink, and rapes him.
The actual assault won’t be shown on screen, with the main focus of the storyline being on how David copes with what’s happened.

David’s dad Martin will be back in the show to support his son after his ordeal.
And now it seems David will find another supportive shoulder to cry on in newcomer Emma.

But what does his friendship with the newbie mean for his relationship with girlfriend Shona? And how exactly is the new girl going to help poor David through the dark time?
