It’s a glamorous life for some celebrities but in the case of Coronation Street’s Nicola Thorp it’s a different story.
The actress plays killer Pat Phelan’s daughter Nicola Rubinstein in the ITV soap and she has now revealed that she has shunned the celebrity lifestyle to live on a canal boat.
Speaking to the Sunday People, Nicola joked that she’s often asked about the glamorous lifestyle that comes with appearing on the nation’s most popular soap.
She added: “I’m like, ‘sweetheart, I have to empty my toilet tank once a week’.”
Nicola also revealed how life on a boat is very “stressful”.

“It can be the most stressful lifestyle,” she added.
But it has forced her to become more self-sufficient and resourceful.
Nicola added: “Something breaks and I’ve spent hours stuck in the engine room watching YouTube tutorials, not knowing what I was doing.”

However, the life on a boat has left her well-prepared for her latest challenge.
The actress will be swapping an engine for an oar and a team for her Sport Relief rowing challenge.
She is part of an all-star ITV team that will be taking on celebs from the BBC in a Clash of the Channels challenge.
