Coronation Street viewers hit back at “disgusting” trolls making jokes about David Platt’s rape

This has crossed a line

| Updated:

Poor David Platt was subjected to a horrifying ordeal in last night’s Coronation Street, as former friend Josh Tucker drugged and raped him.

The actual sexual assault wasn’t shown on screen, but the build-up was sinister enough to leave viewers in no doubt about what Josh was planning.

Fans took to social media in droves to commend Corrie, and actors Jack P Shepherd and Ryan Clayton, for tackling the difficult subject.

“Well done #CoronationStreet david for highlighting such a sensitive subject,” one fan said.

“Fair play to Corrie for covering such a sensitive storyline,” said another.

But some sick internet trolls decided to make jokes about the scenes instead.

And the fans were NOT impressed.

“You only have to read comments about Coronation Street male rape storyline to understand why make victims feel too humiliated to come forward,” wrote one viewer.

“This is why men never speak up about sexual assault or mental health,” said another.

And another said that there were “awful, homophobic and ignorant tweets from some lost, unhinged and intellectually challenged people”.  And he added: “Shame on you all.”
