Coronation Street: Weatherfield mum reunited with long-lost son

Was this best left in the past?

You’d be forgiven for having forgotten, but do you recall Michelle has a biological son that she never sees?

Back in 2007, she was appalled to learn that her young son Ryan was not actually her son – there had been a mix-up at the hospital when he was born.

She had actually taken home another couple’s baby and been raising him ever since.

Michelle was reunited with her biological son, Alex, and for a time he lived with her while Ryan ‘road-tested’ his real parents.

But things didn’t work out and, well, basically he hasn’t been mentioned since.

This all changes next week, however, when Liz runs into the lad at the medical centre.

We say ‘lad’, but he’s now a grown man and a GP, known as Ali. Michelle herself encounters him later when she cuts herself – and the trainee medic treats her.

It transpires that he has reluctantly returned to Weatherfield to continue his training – and he makes it clear to his real mum that he has no interest in reconnecting.

James Burrows, who plays him, told the Radio Times: “Ali comes to Weatherfield on placement at the medical practice, but it wasn’t his choice to go there.

“He’s there for professional reasons and it happens to be where his biological mother lives and he doesn’t want to be in Weatherfield.

“Well, that’s what he’s saying anyway!”

Apparently, his relationship with his ‘other mum’ Wendy hit the skids too after the baby swap was discovered.

But is Ali hiding something? Course he is, this IS soap!
