Coronation Street’s Pat Phelan declared “best soap villain” by fans

We love to hate him...

The wheels have been set in motion for the much-anticipated showdown between Pat Phelan and his wife Eileen.

In episodes which aired on Wednesday (28 March), viewers watched in utter horror as serial killer Phelan convinced Eileen to join him on a seaside break…

And we ALL know what that means – only one of them will come out of the ‘holiday’ alive.

As Pat Phelan promised them “the start of their new life together”, Eileen didn’t exactly look thrilled – and we don’t blame her!

Fans jumped on Twitter to squirm collectively as Pat and Eileen appeared to seal their fate…

One even declared Pat (Connor McIntyre) one of the best soap villains ever – well he IS the master manipulator!

She said: “Pat Phelan aka @connor9mcintyre is literally the best soap villain and I really don’t want him to leave the soap, just because it’ll never be the same without him. He always makes me sit on the edge of my seat because he is that good. He needs an OSCAR!!”

And Oscar!? Praise indeed!

Another fan tweeted: “Every soap needs a villain, I think Pat Phelan will last long in the memory, possibly the greatest Corrie villain, I’ve loved watching you @connor9mcintyre and look forward to seeing what the future holds for you.”

And several more joined the throng, with one villain-lover saying: “For all my hate on #phelan he is arguably the best baddie in #Corrie history and will certainly be remembered for years to come. @connor9mcintyre is truly an incredible actor and a blessing to the profession. I can’t wait to see what he does after this.”

One fan even said that were “missing Phelan already”!

Well, Weatherfield will certainly be quieter without the Machiavellian murderer around.

In dramatic episodes to air on Good Friday, the truth about Pat finally catches up with Eileen and their break ends in disaster.

But who will get out alive?
