Coronation Street’s Rob Mallard explains why his hands were shaking during This Morning interview

Fans are loving his honesty

Actor Rob Mallard has spoken out about the real reason his hands were shaking during an interview on This Morning, revealing a neurological medical condition.

The Coronation Street star, who plays wild child Daniel Osbourne on the ITV show, was on Holly Willoughby and Phil Schofield’s sofa chatting about his latest dramatic soap storyline.

He and co-star Lucy Fallon laughed about his character’s new torrid affair with an older woman. When pushed by Holly, Rob revealed his new lady friend to be none other than show favourite, Carla Connor.

Rob told the presenters: ‘She sees something missing in him, and he sees something missing in her.’

But many viewers were distracted from the chat, when Rob’s hands appeared to shake while speaking to Phil and Holly.

Some speculated that he was extremely nervous appearing on live television.

Rob took to Twitter to correct the assumption, confirming he actually has a medical condition called an essential tremor. It’s a neurological disorder that can cause involuntary shaking.

He wrote: ‘Before any other papers write about this “news” let me disabuse you: I have an essential tremor. Phew! Feels so good to come out.’

Fans applauded his bravery in speaking about the issue, with many thanking him for spreading the word about the condition.

Another of Rob’s followers, Jackie wrote: ‘Thanks for speaking out about this neurological disorder. You have helped us spread the word. Bravo! Had do give up own dance school coz of ET. So relieved when I started to talk out about it.’

Another, Julie said: ‘Thanks for sharing this. I have #EssentialTremor too and sometimes is not easy to explain it to others. Sending tons of hugs for you!’

Even Rob’s Corrie co-star Kym Marsh replied to his tweet, expressing her outrage at the speculation, and writing: ‘Oh my god are they serious!?!?’

Rob has become a firm favourite since he joined Corrie last year, playing Ken Barlow’s troubled youngest son.

He even picked up the award for Best Newcomer at last summer’s British Soap Awards, where he thanked: ‘The whole cast, but in particular the Barlows as they’ve made a space for me.’

Well done Rob, for highlighting an important issue – and we’ll second what Corrie fan Colin tweeted after the revelation: ‘You’re a bloody good actor. That’s all that matters.’
