It’s been a pretty rubbish week for Coronation Street’s Mary Taylor who’s been accused of abusing her own grandson, George.
The tot has only just come into Mary’s life after she tracked down her long-lost son, Jude, and discovered she had a daughter-in-law and a grandchild as well.

It almost looked like Mary was going to get a much-deserved happy ending when Jude and his family moved from South Africa to Weatherfield, but alas, it was not to be.
Mary immediately clashed with Jude’s wife, Angie, accusing her of having an alcohol problem and even calling the police on her for drink driving.
She was devastated when she realised Angie is actually suffering from post-natal depression, but the damage to their relationship was already done.
Things got even worse for Mary when George was rushed into hospital – twice – after being in her care.
Angie and Jude put two and two together and accused Mary of deliberately hurting their little boy, which Mary vehemently denied.
Fans have rallied round the popular character, no one believing she could possibly be capable of hurting a small child.
And now fans think they’ve worked out why the baby keeps getting ill whenever he’s around his grandma. And apparently, it’s dead obvious – a pollen allergy!
One fan tweeted: “Could George just not have a serve allergy to pollen? Mary works in a florist and that’s where she takes him and it must be on her clothes, too.”
Another added: “Little George is clearly allergic to pollen! It’s carrying on Mary’s clothes when she’s been working and that’s whats making him ill when he’s in her care!”
While a third wrote: “#Corrie THEORY – maybe baby George is allergic to pollen? Mary would be covered with it, and she had him in the flower shop that time he got sick.”
Seems plausible. But not everyone is so convinced that this very obvious explanation is really behind George’s illnesses.

One sceptical viewer wrote: “Every time Mary has baby George he gets poorly everyone’s saying it’s from pollen from the florist but seriously, who has full blown seizures from a pollen allergy?”
