There’s still a bit over a week to go until we know for sure who’ll swapping the cosseted celeb lifestyle for bushtucker trials and mozzie bites in places where the sun don’t shine, but rumour has it one very familiar TV actress will be taking part for very shrewd business reasons.
And that business is most definitely not of the ‘show’ variety.
If industry gossip is to be believed, Jennie McAlpine will be waving goodbye to Weatherfield’s cobbles and saying hello to witchetty grubs as she flies down under to join the rest of the line up for series 17 of the hit show.

And according to the Mirror, the 33-year-old Corrie actress’s motivation for participating could be to provide a much needed cash injection for her Manchester teashop, Annies.
Jennie, who co-owns Annies with her husband, Chris Farr, opened the eaterie in December, 2012, but the Mirror reckons that the latest accounts for her company, Fifth Floor, show it to be £197,551 in the red as of July 2016.
Which if true, could be worth swimming with snakes and eating crocodile penis for, right?

A ‘TV source’ apparently told the paper that mum-of-one Jen has ‘always been determined to make Annie’s a success so it would be no surprise to see her put some more money into the business’.
The same mole added that ‘as a big soap star, Jennie has managed to negotiate a big fee to go into camp’.
Let’s hope she doesn’t get any menu ideas for Annies once she’s in there… not sure even Manchester’s most hipster diners are ready for camel hoof or fly pupae smoothie yet, right?
