Corrie’s Bill Roache on why he only grieved for his dead daughter “for a week”

Vanya passed away aged 50 from liver failure

Coronation Street’s William Roache has revealed that he got over the death of his daughter “in a week”.

The 86-year-old’s daughter Vanya passed away at the age of 50 from liver failure in March.

But Bill thanks his “spiritual beliefs” for allowing him to get over it.

He told Spirit and Destiny: “After the death of the physical body, the soul returns to heaven, which is our eternal home.

“Vanya has gone to a far better, happier place and I don’t need to grieve for her.

“If I grieve, it’s because I miss her and that’s negative and where she is she’ll pick up on that. So I send her my love.”

He went on to say: “Of course, for the first few days after her death it was natural to grieve, but within a week I got over it because I know she’s in a beautiful place reunited with other loved ones.”

At the time of Vanya’s tragic passing, Bill was reported to be “utterly heartbroken” and took 10 days off from filming.

The death of his eldest daughter came nine years after Bill’s second wife Sara Mottram passed away in 2009, aged 58.

They lost their 18-month-old daughter Edwina to pneumonia in 1983.

Linus has also appeared in Corrie (Credit: ITV)

The couple had two children together, Vanya and Linus, before divorcing in 1974.

Linus is also an actor and has even appeared opposite his dad in Corrie.

Bill, who has played Ken Barlow since 1960, is a vocal supporter of the spirit world and is a member of the Pure Love Movement.

He recently revealed that he believes he could live until 120.
