Coronation Street’s Catherine Tyldesley has joked that her labour with son Alfie was so traumatic that she would pick an on-screen birth any day.
The actress announced she is leaving the soap later this year after playing fan favourite Eva Price since 2011.
Tonight’s double visit to the cobbles will see Eva dramatically go into labour at home in her new cottage all alone.

But Catherine has revealed that the drama surrounding her character’s labour is nothing in comparison to what she went through in real life.
Durting a chat with the Daily Express the actress revealed that despite the fact she gave birth to three-year-old Alfie in hospital, unlike her pregnant alter-ego, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t have a drama-filled delivery too…
“I was in labour for 38 hours with Alfie – the little monkey! So give me the screen birth any day!”
Catherine also revealed that when it came to filming Eva’s labour scenes she used her own experiences in the delivery room to make it seem realistic: “I remembered how I was in labour – it just brought everything back.
“We spent a lot of time filming it, so I hope it looks as real as it can be.”
She also joked that filming giving birth is actually quite hard work: “We were there for eight hours, so by the end of the day I actually felt like I’d given birth. I was shattered!”
This week sees Eva hand her baby over to Toyah and Peter as promised – with Peter totally in the dark that the little girl they name Susie isn’t his biologically his.

But as Eva hands her daughter over, it seems there is a glimmer of regret in her eyes. Could this mean she is struggling with the pact she made with Toyah?
With Catherine’s exit from the show looming, it’s no secret that there is plenty of drama to come for her character – but is Eva about to change her mind and decide she wants to keep the baby after all?
