Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner fears axe: “They have not spoken to me about next year”

The show would be so... nice without him?

Jason Gardiner, the most opinionated judge on Dancing On Ice, has confessed fears he’ll be axed next series.

In a chat with the Daily Star, the talent show judge explained that none of the current judging panel know where they will be next year.

He said: “I know what this industry is like. You can never say it is a sure thing. They have not spoken to me about next year. Oh God… who knows what will happen?

“At this point I’m just making sure we get through this series and making it the best that we can. I have got a job ahead of me. But none of us knows where we are going to be next year.”

The Australian choreographer has previously been axed from the show, where he was a judge from 2006 to 2011, after he clashed with coach Karen Barber.

He was missed, though, and bosses brought him back to the panel in 2013, and then again this year, when the show was revived.

The 46-year-old is known for his brutally honest and divisive critiques.

On Sunday, he was part of the line up to send Corrie actor Antony Cotton home. It followed some harsh words from the acid-tongued judge.

After Antony – who broke his ribs during training earlier this month – performed From New York To LA, Jason told him: “Well brace, brace, brace yourself, Antony, I don’t know what happened. I really expected that you would take to this competition and do more for it.

“I really feel like you’ve given up. What did you do?”

He later took to Twitter to take what looked like another swipe at Antony, writing: “Spare ribs to go? @antonycotton at least now u can recover fully. Such a shame your main skate routine wasn’t on par with your save me skate.”

Jason has defended his brutal judging in the past, saying: “I am honest – I always call it as I see it but when they’re good, I give them great praise and I think I help them to improve a lot.”

“I’m not going in with preconceived ideas of how I’m going to be, you have to be there and assess it in that moment, it’s only fair to the contestants to go in there being open.

“Being a judge isn’t necessarily who I am but it’s a role I’ve got to do to get my point across.”
