Dancing On Ice’s Melody Thornton reveals she smashed her face on the ice in training fall

The singer admits it was her greatest fear

Dancing On Ice’s Melody Thornton has revealed she smashed her face on the ice when she took a terrifying tumble during an intense training session.

The former Pussycat Dolls singer, who is partnered with professional skater Alexander Demetriou, was trying to perfect her debut routine for Sunday’s show when the injury took place.

The 34-year-old told The Sun: “The worst for me is there’s a little bitty part of the blade in the back of your skate that if you put your other skate on top of that and then move an inch you will just fall out of nowhere. It’s like getting shot. It’s crazy.

“I was trying to put one foot behind the other and I stepped on my blade and went flying backwards and landed on my face, It was so intense. You immediately want to cry. It’s like when you’re a kid and you can’t help it.”

She continued: “I’ve fallen on my hips and things and the bruising is like, ‘Wow, OK!'”

The American singer, who is already one of the favourites to win Dancing On Ice despite not having performed yet, also revealed that her greatest fear is knocking her teeth out on the ice.

She told Mirror Online: “I’m so excited for Sunday but I’m really nervous.

“It ain’t a small deal you know. If something goes wrong, you lose your teeth. I definitely think that from time to time, ‘OK, don’t lose your teeth, don’t lose your teeth’. But hopefully that doesn’t happen, touch wood.”

Despite her years dancing in the Pussycat Dolls Melody says she is scared of the choreography and insists her time in the group has definitely not given her an advantage.

She told Mirror Online: “I’d never skated before. I am from Arizona, which is like the hottest city, no one is really used to the cold. I was pretty unsteady at first, but I had to tell myself to be patient.”

She continued that she’s concerned people will think she has an advantage with her previous dance experience, but that she used to sing and she was “always in the back of the line-up” because she made so many mistakes.
