David Platt’s emotional turmoil on Coronation Street after assault by Josh Hunter

He's a man on the edge...

David Platt has been left bruised and battered – emotionally and physically – after being sexually assaulted by predator Josh Hunter.

Coronation Street fans have seen him struggle to come to terms with the attack, while Josh sticks around in Weatherfield to taunt him.

In last night’s episode (Wednesday 21 March), viewers got a glimpse of David’s internal dilemma when he grabbed a sharp knife and approached Josh from behind.

Josh (Ryan Clayton) continued to torment David (Jack P. Shepherd) when he turned up at his house to give Harry a birthday present.

With Shona close by but totally unaware of anything sinister, Josh made a number of sick jokes that only David could understand.

Approaching him in the kitchen, he mentioned his “smooth hands” and teased that he’d “make someone a good wife”.

Pushed to the edge, David grabbed the knife from the kitchen counter and approached Josh while he had his back turned.

However, Shona soon needed the knife for cutting Harry’s birthday cake. A lucky escape… For now.

Later in the episode, David told a shocked Shona that he would be leaving Weatherfield and heading to Liverpool to see his dad.

And he made it very clear that he’d be going alone. Poor Shona is already worried about David’s behaviour after her attempts to get amorous have all ended badly. Doesn’t he fancy her anymore?

In forthcoming episodes, we know that David attempts to prove his masculinity when he sleeps with a 19-year-old salon intern.

David’s rape was shown off-screen, and provoked more than 122 complaints to Ofcom.

However the story has been praised by male rape charity Male Survivors as it has boosted calls to their helpline by 1,700 per cent.
