Debbie McGee postpones work commitments to avoid clash with Strictly final

The star is clearly hoping to take that glitter ball home

Sounds like Debbie McGee might just be clearing a spot on her mantelpiece for the Strictly Come Dancing winner’s trophy.

The 59-year-old was committed to a role in a panto performance of Beauty and The Beast and was due to take to the stage on Friday 15th December.

But with the Strictly final planned for the following night, and Debbie still very much in the competition, she’s suddenly changed her plans. Ooer.

Debbie and her dancing partner Giovanni Pernice are proving to be frontrunners on the show after a string of consistently good weeks.

In fact, the pair were so good that they managed to score the show’s first perfect 40 of the series with last week’s Tango, an accolade that saw Craig Revel Horwood sink to his knees and bow down.

(We’ll be honest, it was a bit weird. Here’s a picture if you missed it.)

However, Debbie is set to start her role as fairy Adorabella Marigold Angelpie alongside Blue’s Antony Costa and former Coronation Street star Ken Morley the day before the show’s grand final.

But, possibly now with a serious eye on the prize, Debbie has postponed her start date in the York panto, leaving her (we imagine extremely gleeful about the whole thing) understudy to replace her.

It’s not the first time contestants have had to change their plans after unexpectedly finding themselves in the final.

“This isn’t the first time this has happened and it’s a touch embarrassing for the acts,” said a BBC source.

“No doubt many people will be upset at not seeing who they are paying to see at the theatres.”

Still, if Debbie heads home with the Strictly glitter ball, we’re sure all will be forgiven.
