Dennis Wise jumps to defence of Jamie Lomas after camp rows

Not everyone is happy about the treatment of Iain Lee

Jamie Lomas hasn’t impressed some I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! viewers, who have accused him, Dennis Wise and Amir Khan of not always being the nicest to Iain Lee.

However, the recently-eliminated Dennis has nothing but praise for his soap star pal.

Speaking on last night’s Extra Camp, Dennis said: “I love Jamie. I have [got myself a friend for life]. Jamie is what Jamie is. He’s very straight laced. What you see is what you get.

“He’s a lovely guy and I’ve really enjoyed his company. We’re going to have some fun when he comes out. I’ll have a nice Peroni waiting for him!”

Dennis added that he wants either Jamie or Coronation Street actress Jennie McAlpine to win.

“What you see with them is what you get,” he repeated.

“They are very straight forward, kind-hearted people. They’re just keen to get on with anything and they have good hearts.”

Dennis, Jamie and Amir have rattled some viewers, who feel they’ve been unfair to Iain.

Iain admitted feeling a bit “humiliated” two episodes ago when retired footballer Dennis questioned his ability to finish a Bushtucker Trial, bringing up two instances in camp where he’d backed out of tasks.

Jamie, meanwhile, has made a few comments about Iain that viewers have deemed “snide and hurtful”, while Amir annoyed Iain yesterday by joking about his past failures.

Just this week, Iain’s close friend and colleague, Katherine Boyle, lashed out at the three men’s treatment of Iain in the jungle.

“Iain’s got a good heart and it’s awful to watch the sniping and backstabbing from grown men who should know better,” she told BBC Newsbeat.

“He’ll be horrified to know this has become his storyline. He’s funny, warm and kind.”

Meanwhile, appearing on today’s Good Morning Britain, Dennis said he’d been “shocked” by allegations the men’s behaviour towards Iain amounted to “bullying”.

He insisted he’s friendly with Iain and the pair have made plans to meet up on the outside; he’s getting Iain and his sons tickets for a Chelsea football match and wants to visit Iain’s mum in her care home.

“I’m a little shocked with what has happened. We have got on very well. It’s really interesting as I think ITV wouldn’t allow that anyway. It’s something I don’t think they’d ever allow.”

I’m A Celebrity airs nightly on ITV.
