Doc Martin actor Martin Clunes not only gave a glimpse of his stunning home during a lockdown interview, he also impressed This Morning viewers with his striking weight loss.
A known animal lover, Martin – talking about Doc Martin with Alan Titchmarsh on Love Your Weekend this Sunday (September 22) – lives on a sprawling farm in Dorset.
And, while many of us turned into couch potatoes endlessly snacking to alleviate boredom during lockdown, Martin clearly kept active.
And his makeover didn’t pass swooning viewers by…
Doc Martin star Martin Clunes’ weight loss
Back in 2020, the beloved telly star appeared to have lost a significant amount of weight. It was noted by many viewers of the daytime show…
“Lovely man, looks like he has lost a lot of weight,” one fan commented on Facebook. “He has lost a lot of weight, like him in Doc Martin, brilliant,” said another.
Looking pretty fit!
Someone replied to this: “I thought that. Looking pretty fit!”
5:2 diet
The actor, who shot to fame on BBC comedy Men Behaving Badly, has previously spoken about dropping some weight following the 5:2 diet. This involves fasting for two days a week and eating normally on the other five.
The actor reflected in 2017: “I was fat – and while I was getting heavy, I had tired knees and stuff. So I thought I’d try that diet and the weight came off. I lost about three stone in as many months. It’s great – and it’s supposed to be good for cholesterol, too.”
He has said that he now adheres to a 6:1 diet to maintain his trimmer frame. “I’m very healthy. This is a difficult age, obviously, but I’m doing fine – I’m not on any medication.”
Sudden illness
Around a year after adopting the 5:2, Martin suffered from a brutal illness that saw him lose a dramatic amount of weight. He said he was struck down by a sudden mystery virus – and it seemed to have took its toll on the star.
The Doc Martin wardrobe department even had to adjust his character’s costumes after he dropped several pounds in rapid fashion. He recalled to the Radio Times: “I had a virus and lost a stone. They had to remake my wardrobe to fit.”
Martin Clunes: Horsing around
Martin is also a keen horse rider – and running around after his eight horses clearly keeps him in shape.
Chatting on This Morning in 2020, Martin said : “[Lockdown] isn’t too bad for me. I’m getting lots of jobs done, the garden’s never looked better. I’m mending bits of fences and gates and things.”
