Eamonn Holmes accused of turning into Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain

Normally jovial host 'patronised' co-presenter Charlotte Hawkins

Piers Morgan’s squabbles with his co-hosts on Good Morning Britain are now legendary, and now Eamonn Holmes has taken his place or the summer he seems to have also taken on Piers’ persona.

The This morning presenter has been accused of ‘channelling his inner Piers Morgan’ after he was ‘patronising’ to co-host Charlotte Hawkins during a debate on thefts carried out on mopeds.

Eamonn and Charlotte didn’t really see eye to eye on how the criminals should be dealt with.

Met Police officer David Videcette and former Scotland Yard detective Peter Bleksley, were on the show to discuss the soaring crime rates surrounding ‘moped thefts’ and explained that the crimes can become very serious with someone being stabbed and killed a few weeks ago.

Charlotte commented on how young the average age of these kind of criminals are –  at 15 years old – and she suggested that police chasing them could endanger more people’s lives.

Eamonn objected to this comment and said that police reactions shouldn’t be softer because of how young the criminal is.

Eamonn said: “They’re criminals, forget they’re children, look at the footage. How scary is this?

“People coming down pavements like that, they could go into a mother with a pram, they could hit old people, they could do absolutely anything yet the police would be more concerned if you were riding your bicycle down that pavement and nabbing you, than going after those hoodlums whether they’re 15 or not.”

Charlotte counteracted with an argument on how dangerous chasing the criminals could be. She said to the officers on the show: “Isn’t there difficulty though if the police then give chase? It’s not only risking the life of the moped driver but also anybody else in the area.”

The look on Eamonn’s face pretty much said what he was thinking as he responded: “You’re right, let them get away with it. They’re only 15, bless them.” He also patted Charlotte on the arm in a way that some viewers called ‘patronising’.

When Charlotte tried to argue her case Eamonn continued to pat her and said sarcastically: “Bless them, no you’re right let them mug people, let them throw acid in people’s faces, you’re right.”

Many viewers thought Eamonn’s response was Piers Morgan-esque, with one viewer tweeting: “Ugh Eamonn Holmes channelling his inner Piers Morgan this morning.”

Another angry viewer said: “Can’t watch #EamonnHolmes on #GMB dreadful presenter patronising #CharlotteHawkins over the moped crimes.”

Eamonn seems to be speaking his mind more and more lately as he got into a heated debate on yesterday’s Good Morning Britain about whether children under 14 should be left home alone.

Lorrine Marer, a child behavioural expert, told the GMB hosts: “My belief is a child’s brain hasn’t matured sufficiently to be able to make conscious decisions.

“Another thing that bothers me is that children have their faces into an iPad or a laptop – screens screens screens – absolutely wrong.”

But Eamonn, 57, disagreed with her comments, saying: “It might be wrong but that’s life. Where I strongly disagree with you is that I remember when I was ten I thought I could rule the world,” before Lorrine interrupted asking: “But how many years ago was that Eamonn?”

Eamonn hit back: “47 years ago and I remember it distinctly.

“Now listen at ten I would spend all day watching Scooby Doo and eating sugar puffs and would have been happy that no one was bothering me.

“What is your problem? Surely what we’re doing is wrapping children up in cotton wool.

“[Children] are shaving at 14. A lot of them are parents at 14. What are you talking about?

“A lot of them are watching Love Island at 14.” Lorrine still couldn’t see Eamonn’s point of view and he stood his ground on the subject.

It seems like he’s getting more and more feisty every day! We Love Eamonn but patronising women is NOT ON!
