EastEnders fans react as “cute” Halfway makes two shocking announcements

He shared his secrets with girlfriend Whitney

EastEnders favourite Callum ‘Halfway’ Highway returned to Walford this week, and Whitney was thrilled to be reunited with her soldier boyfriend.

But it soon became clear that he was a changed man after his time in Afghanistan – and hiding a big secret.

In emotional scenes aired last night (Tuesday 1 May), the lovable woolly-hat wearing character (Tony Clay) revealed not one, but two shocking secrets.

Firstly, when Whitney attempted to get intimate with him, he made a surprising confession – he was still a virgin. But she soon changed that!

Secondly, when Whitney realised Halfway had a stomach injury, he was forced to admit he had been wounded at war.

When Whitney tried to seduce her man, she was understandably upset when he rejected her advances – especially after so many months away. Jumping to the conclusion that he didn’t fancy her, she confronted him.

When he suggested visiting the Tower Of London instead, Whitney exclaimed: “They’re not really the crown jewels I’m after.”

(Classic line, Whit!)

Insisting he DID find her attractive, he confessed he had never done the deed!

Whitney promised to wait until he was ready… Which was approximately a few hours later!

The likeable squaddie also told Whitney that he’d been nursing a secret injury – he’d been hit by shrapnel after a bomb went off as he saved the lives of two kids.

As Whitney declared him a hero, the pair sealed their love.

And fans voiced their mixed opinions on Twitter…

One joked: “Halfway went the wholeway.”

And others showed they are big fans of the character, calling him “cute” and “adorable”.

Others thought it was unrealistic that a man in his twenties would still be a virgin, and blasted: “Why are EastEnders writing Whitney and Halfway like 14 year olds? They are supposed to be in their min twenties.”

Callum made his first appearance in the soap in the 2018 New Year’s Day episode when he accidentally shot Mick Carter.

He left Albert Square last February to re-join the army after he was called back to duty.
