EastEnders legend “not scared” by getting caught up in high-stakes drugs bust

From the BBC to the DEA

Viewers were absolutely delighted on Monday night when they tuned in to the first of a three-part series on ITV, called Gone to Pot: American Road Trip.

It follows five celebs who are packed into a psychedelic van and driven around the USA, exploring the rules around marijuana, and its use in medicine.

Of course, they have to try some – it’s for TV, after all! And the sight of Pam St Clement – who played Pat Butcher in EastEnders for 25 years – toking on a joint was an image.

The series continues tonight at 9pm, with dedicated watchers in for another treat.

On a visit to Colorado, the group – which also contains Christopher Biggins and Linda Robson – learns that recreational use of marijuana is legal there, both for recreational and medicinal use.

But legalisation doesn’t mean it’s entirely problem free, and the group dons bulletproof jackets and get caught up in a dramatic, high-stakes, Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) raid!

The brave TV stars are in the middle of a raid on a super-sized, super-illegal marijuana farm with a cool $3.9 million dollars worth of product on site.

Luckily, the celebs are under the watchful eye of a heavily armed SWAT team, so the danger was minimised.

Pam spoke about the experience to the Mail Online, saying: “I didn’t find it scary, I had total, complete and utter trust in the sheriff. I loved him. It was just very exciting – it was like Cagney and Lacey. It really was like that. It was incredible.”

Elsewhere in the episode, in Los Angeles, Christopher Biggins and darts player Bobby George over indulge in some edible marijuana.

They’re having dinner at Nonna Marijuana’s kitchen table, and unfortunately cross the line in terms of their personal limits for consumption.

And staunch anti-drugs critic and ex-footballer John Fashanu may have his opinion on the drug changed when he meets a mum in Venice Beach.

She swears by medical marijuana, claiming it transformed her daughter’s life.

This programme really does have it all – it’s informative, thought-provoking, and downright hilarious. Such a shame it has to end on Friday!
