She hits rock bottom as she struggles to cope with her grief

Carmel Kazemi hits rock bottom in EastEnders next week as she struggles to cope with the loss of her youngest son Shakil who dies after being brutally stabbed.

The whole Square is struggling to come to terms with Shakil’s death but understandably Carmel is beyond devastated by her loss. Kush and Denise try to comfort her but she’s too distraught.

Carmel’s friends and family soon become concerned by her behaviour as she sets her mind on finding Shakil’s watch which has gone missing.

When Carmel’s ex-husband Umar lets slip that Kush could still be joining him in Dubai, it’s too much for the grieving mother and she is left feeling even more devastated.

Carmel begins to question what the point of life is without Shakil and soon takes drastic measures and attempts to take her own life, but she immediately regrets it when she finds Shakil’s watch.

She instantly tries to reverse the situation and when Kush arrives, realising what his mum has done, an ambulance is called for Carmel.

When they arrive she insists to the paramedics that she’s fine and assures Kush that it was a mistake – but will he still be thinking about going to Dubai now?

EastEnders teen knife crime story comes ten years after former EE actress Brooke Kinsella lost her brother Ben to a knife attack in London.

Since losing Ben, Brooke has tirelessly campaigned for harsher rules to bring knife crime under control in the UK.

She said of the controversial storyline: “The pain will never go away. I commend EastEnders for choosing to portray the realities of knife crime. It destroys lives.

“This storyline will bring home how it damages lives of victims, offenders, their families and friends for ever.”

EastEnders boss John Yorke added: “The episodes are heartbreaking and dramatic.”

Ben was stabbed to death by a gang of three youths in June 2008 when he was just 16 years old.
