Ian Beale is one of life and EastEnders’ optimists, or at least it appears as such from his (mis)behaviour this week.
The Walford businessman – played by actor Adam Woodyatt in the BBC soap – has spent a few weeks in New Zealand on his holidays and now he’s back in Albert Square with a whole new positive outlook on life.
Only as well as his tan, he’s now got a newfound confidence with the idea that he can win back his ex-wife Mel Owen.
E20 manager Mel was briefly, and we do mean briefly, married to Ian 18 years ago.

And despite their marriage lasting a few hours, Ian thinks they are perfect for each other and should reunite.
He decides to ask Mel out on a date, but she thinks it is merely a business meeting.
And when he says he will help her fill her contacts book, the pair get down to discussing things, but it’s clear Ian is there for romance and Mel is there for business.
But instead of realising the reality of what’s happening, Ian tells Mel he thinks they can make a go of their relationship and they should get back together.

Shockingly, this doesn’t fill Mel with feelings of joy and she’s forced to make her feelings quite clear to Ian.
Unfortunately that doesn’t stop him and later his mum Kathy is shocked by his insistence on not giving up on winning Mel back.
But could the pair really reunite and make a go of things?
Do you think Ian and Mel would be a good pairing this time around?
