Emmerdale fans furious as the show is ‘snubbed’ by Royal Television Society Awards

Have the judges made a BIG mistake?

Emmerdale has been left out in the cold, with the Royal Television Society choosing NOT to include it in the Best Soap nominations this year.

This has come as a surprising blow to fans, as the ITV serial drama won the category for the past two years.

Emmerdale has also won a host of other awards recently including the Bafta for Best Continuing Drama in 2017, Best Soap at the British Soap Awards in 2016 and 2017, and Best Serial Drama at the National Television Awards in 2017 and 2018.

But now, Coronation Street, EastEnders and Holby City will be contenders for the prize on Tuesday 20 March.

Just some of the Emmerdale stories that have been overlooked are the Robron romance, Ross’s acid attack, Debbie Dingle’s return and Ashley’s dementia storyline.

Fans took to Twitter to express their shock at the snub.

One said: “Not gonna lie, I feel like its stupid that #Emmerdale missed out on the RTS awards… It was better than Corrie last year – Phelan alone is why it shouldn’t win.”

Another agreed, saying: “RTS Awards have failed to notice how awesome Emmerdale is compared to every other awards this year!!! Not even nominated after winning the last 2 years! Holby City I am there for, Corrie has overdone Phelan and Eastenders? Really??”

Others agreed with the RTS’s decision, calling it a “wake-up call”.

One soap fan wrote: “Haha! #Emmerdale aren’t shortlisted for the RTS awards.. WOW! Maybe this will FINALLY be the wake up call they need. #Robron #justsaying.”

Hard-hitting dramas Three Girls and Little Boy Blue received the most nominations at the RTS Awards, which is judged by a panel of industry experts.

Other well-known shows receiving nominations include ITV2’s Love Island, which is up for Best Entertainment show, facing off against ITV’s Saturday Night Takeaway and BBC Three’s Murder in Successville.

The awards are hosted by Vernon Kay.

With Emmerdale out of the picture this year, which soap will win the coveted prize?
