Ross Barton has been put through hell since his acid attack in Emmerdale.
And now it seems things could be about to get much worse before they get better.
The image-conscious mechanic has struggled since the attack left him scarred for life, and now he’s been left devastated after being told he may have to wear a mask for two years.
In scenes to be shown on Friday night, he’s given the heartbreaking news.
A nurse tells him: “About the next stage of your treatment, this is the conformer mask we recommend.”

She adds: “It will be customised to your face and it will take a bit of getting used to.”
A bitter Ross replies: “As if I wasn’t drawing enough attention to myself already.”
But then she reveals the worst news – the mask isn’t a quick fix.
The nurse tells him: “It varies from person to person but it can be one to two years.”
Admitting he could just continue with the moisturisers, the nurse then reveals that the conformer would help more.
“We do get good results from the conformers,” she says.

Ross visibly begins to struggle with the thought of having to wear the mask for so long, wanting simply to move on with his life.
And as he agrees to have the mould of his face made in preparation, it’s clear Ross is heartbroken by the realisation that he will never be the same again.
