Emmerdale SPOILER: Someone is arrested for Emma Barton’s murder

The police think they've got the killer

The Emmerdale police force make an arrest in the Emma Barton murder case next week – Adam Barton is the one carted away in handcuffs.

Have the police got the right man though? Did he really do it?

The reason the police think they’ve found their killer is because they discover Emma’s suicide note in his car.

Adam found the letter in his car, but he refuses to tell the police about it and after they seize his motor, it’s not long before Ads is under arrest.

He denies Emma was ever in his car, and is eventually released on bail after pleading his innocence under questioning.

Adam thinks he’s been set up and together with wife Victoria, they vow to find out who’s planted the letter in his vehicle.

Convinced it was Ross, Adam heads round there and confronts his half-brother, but Ross, on the surface, seems to be shocked that Emma was attacked before her death.

However, a flashback soon shows Ross’s behaviour wasn’t just suspicious at the time of his mother’s demise, it was SUPER suspicious. Is Adam right? Did Ross kill his mum?

Pete’s also starting to doubt Ross, so the bad boy Barton decides to pack a bag and leave the village.

That gives Adam all the ammunition he needs to call the cops and report Ross as the one who did it.

Will Ross be arrested? Or are the police so convinced they’ve got their man in Adam they won’t start probing any further?

Given that show boss Iain MacLeod has recently said the storyline will run on for months rather than weeks, we think it’s probably safe to say Adam’s arrest is a red herring.

“It’s going to be months rather than weeks,” Iain told Metro.co.uk. “We have to be careful not to exhaust the audience’s patience.

“Not many weeks go by where there isn’t a development or twist in the story to keep momentum up.”

MacLeod also explained what will happen when the culprit is finally revealed: “The soap gods must have their vengeance, but we’ll have to see the story as it plays out.

“I say this in the hope that we don’t have to, but Robert Sugden’s killed somebody and I certainly don’t think anyone’s clamouring to get him out.

“The wheel of karma probably means that whoever has killed Emma, in some ways hasn’t committed as big a crime as if they’d killed a God-fearing, law-abiding, lovely and innocent character.

“But if you’ve got blood on your hands in soap, you can’t just get away with it.”

Earlier today, Sharon Marshall revealed on This Morning that the storyline would be wrapped up by Christmas, so anyone thinking it’s already dragged out a bit too long, doesn’t have much time left to wait.
