Actress Emma Atkins has admitted she worries about her Emmerdale character having a ‘shelf-life’.
Her alter-ego Charity Dingle is currently central to the show’s ratings thanks to her romance with Vanessa Woodfield – a relationship which has spawned the affectionate moniker ‘Vanity’.
But nonetheless, Emma has revealed that her luck – and Charity’s – could run out one day.
Speaking to The Sun Online, Emma said: “I’m so lucky with the writing because there could come a point where you think we’ve just had enough now, how much of a [bleep] can you be before there’s a shelf life?

“And I’m sure there will be a shelf life to my character at some point, but right now I’m blessed with the fact that humour is a big part of life in general.
“When you’re having huge traumas in your life, sat there with a cup of tea crying and then laughing, we’ve all been there. Laughter is an absolute tonic. […] Her humour runs throughout and it’s so important when you’re playing such a [bleep].”
Emma has been playing Charity for 18 years and is famous for causing mischief. Well, that’s one way of putting it!
She’s blunt, no-nonsense and knows how to get what she wants – mostly by flirting.

But fans have seen a softer side to Charity recently as they’ve seen her fall for Vanessa.
Taking about their romance, Emma adds: “There’s no manipulation going on, it’s actually genuine and kind and loving.
“She’s perhaps not been used to that. She’s often been the unkind one, and she’s found herself maybe being a bit nicer. She can’t believe it.”
Awwwww.
