Emmerdale star admits fears he might “lose his job”

Is the actor leaving?

Emmerdale actors Mike Parr and Anthony Quinlan appeared on Loose Women today and Mike revealed that he doesn’t know who killed Emma Barton on the soap, but he’s fearful for his job.

Mike’s character, Ross Barton, is one of the seven suspects and he’s got a particularly dark past, so he’s high up on the list of possibles.

With the Loose ladies desperate to know who killed Emma, the boys revealed several endings had been shot so as not to ruin it for the fans.

But as Mike joked: “It was Rita from Coronation Street,” talk turned to whether or not the real murderer would have to leave the show if they get caught out.

The actor revealed: “It’s been complicated for us when we’ve been reading it.

“There’s been times when I’ve been like: ‘Oh my god, I think I did it. I’m going to lose my job!”

Fortunately, show boss Iain MacLeod has said the culprit won’t necessarily feel the long arm of the law.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, MacLeod explained: “The soap gods must have their vengeance, but we’ll have to see the story as it plays out.

“I say this in the hope that we don’t have to, but Robert Sugden’s killed somebody and I certainly don’t think anyone’s clamouring to get him out.

“The wheel of karma probably means that whoever has killed Emma, in some ways hasn’t committed as big a crime as if they’d killed a God-fearing, law-abiding, lovely and innocent character.

“But if you’ve got blood on your hands in soap, you can’t just get away with it.”

So maybe that means if Ross did do it, he could stick around? The village wouldn’t be the same without him.

The actor also addressed speculation him shaving his beard could have some significance to the storyline.

After appearing in the audience at Strictly Come Dancing to see former co-star Gemma Atkinson perform, fans were baffled when Mike didn’t have his trademark Ross facial hair.

Fans immediately thought it meant he was the killer and had therefore left the show, but when asked by Christine Lampard today, Mike admitted:

“I had two weeks off work and had to shave it and thought it would grow back by then.”

Christine pushed: “It was for a storyline, though?”

“I’m not saying,” Mike replied. “But I thought I’d got away with it, then I went on Strictly and the cat was out of the bag!”

Intriguing!

With a series of flashbacks planned to tell the story of what really happened to Emma Barton, beginning this Friday, and a whole flashback episode later this month, it looks like we’ll have to wait a while to see if Ross really was the killer – and just why he shaved that beard off….
