Emma Atkins uses Trolls soundtrack to prep for Emmerdale scenes

We wouldn't have predicted this one!

| Updated:

Actors have all got their own ways of preparing for emotional or difficult scenes.

Some might take themselves off to a quiet corner, or think sad thoughts, or listen to sad music.

Emma Atkins, aka Emmerdale’s Charity Dingle, has her own surprising way of getting ready for tear-jerking scenes.

She listens to the Trolls soundtrack.

Yes, that’s right – Emma reckons listening to the music from the kids’ film featuring Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick – or more specifically the cover version of Cyndi Lauper’s hit True Colours – is just the ticket when it comes to getting emotional.

And she does have a good (and pretty cute) reason why it works.

“My son Albert loves it so much,” she told What’s On TV. “It’s about friendship. There’s a character called Branch and he loses his colour because his grandma has died, and there’s a moment when the other character Poppy’s colour gets drained as well.

“As it comes back, True Colours comes on, and as soon as I hear that song, I connect it to my son. It’s such a beautiful story and it absolutely helps get me to where I need to be.”

Cute, right? And we reckon Emma’s done a lot of listening to her special song recently because Charity’s about to take centre-stage in a very emotional storyline exploring her past that kicks off next week.

Gobby Ms Dingle is surprisingly supportive when her girlfriend Vanessa’s sister Tracy has to cope with her blackmailer Phil being sentenced, and Tracy’s really grateful.

But Charity turns cold and Vanessa’s annoyed that she’s let her sister down.

When she questions her girlfriend about it, though, she’s surprised when instead of being snippy and defensive as usual, Charity instead starts to open up.

She tells Vanessa some stories about her past, and reveals something that shocks Vanessa when she hears it.

What on earth could be so shocking?

After all, Vanessa already knows about Charity’s past as a prostitute, her long on/off romance with Cain, and that she had Debbie – and gave her away – when she was just a teenager.
